Dental Checkups & Cleanings Springfield

Consistent Care for Teeth & Gums

As crucial as brushing and flossing are, these habits alone can't fully protect your grin. They'll leave room for cavities, gum disease, and other oral issues to occur without extra help. For that reason (among others), our practice provides dental checkups and cleanings in Springfield. These sessions complement home oral care, ensuring your smile remains strong and stable. Why Are Regular Dental Checkups & Cleanings Important?

A smiling woman preparing to receive a dental checkup

Frequent dental checkups (and cleanings) are crucial to a vibrant smile. If you don’t attend them, you and your oral health will face various costs.

Remember, these visits are top-tier preventive oral care. Each one lets a dentist remove your mouth’s plaque – the bacterial film that destabilizes teeth and gums. Given these facts, skipping checkups and cleanings would greatly weaken your grin over time. This neglect would lead to severe bacterial buildup, increasing your odds of oral pain and dental emergencies.

Regular checkups and cleanings also save you time and money. Since they only last an hour each and enjoy coverage from dental plans, the sessions remain very cost-effective. Going without them would just lead to expensive and time-consuming procedures later. Indeed, these other treatments – ranging from root canals to tooth extractions – are more involved than standard checkups.

What to Expect During a Dental Checkup

At our office, a dental checkup always involves certain key elements. These include:

  • An Oral Exam – Each checkup starts with one of our hygienists performing an oral exam. Through this evaluation, we assess your teeth, bite, and prior dental work for issues; we also screen you for oral cancer.
  • Dental X-Rays – An oral exam will feature dental X-rays at least once yearly. After all, X-rays help us find hidden problems with your mouth.
  • Medical History Review – During each checkup, our team will update your patient/medical history. Doing so helps see whether past illnesses or medications affect your oral health.
  • Treatment Plan(s) – If we detect any oral problems, we’ll draft a custom treatment plan for you. Dr. Gramse will then explain his suggestions to you step by step.
  • A Brief Q&A – You’ll have a chance to ask care-related questions at your checkup’s end.

What to Expect During a Dental Cleaning

After each checkup, our team will provide you with a dental cleaning. This process involves:

  • Removal of Plaque – Using specialized instruments, our hygienist(s) will remove plaque and tartar from your teeth (and along your gums).
  • Thorough Flossing – We’ll floss between your teeth amidst the cleaning, eliminating plaque we might’ve missed earlier.
  • Polishing of Teeth – To remove lingering tooth stains, we’ll polish your teeth after the initial cleaning. You should then have a visibly brighter smile.
  • Fluoride Application – Our hygienist may apply fluoridated gel to your smile, depending on the situation. This gel will strengthen your enamel, making sure it prevents decay and cavities.
